ABOUT
Yalad, in Hebrew, means "to bear" or "to bring forth". Simply, "to give birth".
At Yalad Doula Services we believe that birth is a miracle, and every child a gift created in God's image. As a doula, I consider it a privilege to bear witness to the bringing forth of life, and will always treat it with the reverence it deserves and requires.
I first began my doula journey in 2013 by attending a doula training workshop with DONA International doula trainer Elaine Mongomery of Calgary. In January 2026 I refreshed my skills with DONA International doula trainer Suzanne Moquin of Edmonton. Until now, being a doula has been my ministry, but not my career.
After many years, many career changes, and a number of births, Yalad Doula Services has been brought to the forefront of my life as my focus, and most importantly, my calling. I am dedicated to providing compassionate, professional and faith-based birth doula services. My mission is to support expectant families through each stage of pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum journey through spiritual, physical and emotional support. Every birth is unique, and whether its your first birth or your 20th birth I am here to empower you with knowledge, support and comfort as you emerge as a new mother and family.
I am proud to be an Albertan serving Edmonton and surrounding areas.

'I give thanks to You, for I am awesomely and wondrously made" - Psalm 139:14
My name is Carey Thiessen. I am a mom of three (and now a grandmother of 3!) and when I had my babies between 1995-2000 in rural Saskatchewan, I had never heard of a doula or even a midwife, and homebirths were only by accident in the most extreme emergencies!
I cherish the memories of birthing my children, but I wish I had known then what I know now. I wish I had known I had options and of the benefits of dedicated support for myself and my husband. Now I can pass all I have learned to my clients to help them make their own cherished birth memories!
